kate-beresford-july-2014-xPrincipal consultant, Kate Beresford, has a strong background in university enterprise education, business engagement and knowledge transfer developed initially through her employment within the University of Nottingham Institute for Enterprise and Innovation. She established Kate Beresford Associates in 2006 and has since worked in the UK and overseas with universities, science parks, businesses, and regional and national government agencies. Kate has considerable experience of strategy development, project management and project evaluation and works across a range of business sectors but has a particular interest in Life Sciences. She sits on the Advisory Board for Loughborough University’s ‘The Studio’ graduate entrepreneurship initiative and in 2012 she was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in recognition of her contributions to enterprise and entrepreneurship education. In 2014 Kate became one of the first Small Business Charter assessors and has since chaired and contributed to assessments of several UK business schools.

Stu Anderson

stu-anderson-xStu is one of the leading practitioners in enterprise and entrepreneurship in the UK. He is the founder of Blue Serac and has worked with organisations such as the United Nations, the EU and some of the UK’s biggest corporate names. He was director of Shell LiveWIRE, a co-founder of the National Working Group for Youth Enterprise, a member of the advisory board to the All Party Group on Entrepreneurship, a member of the ministerial ambassador group for Global Entrepreneurship Week, a member of the Courvoisier Future 500, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is currently studying for a PhD at Newcastle University, holds an MBA, PG Cert in Research and numerous other management qualifications and courses.


Bob Hodgson

bob-hodgsonBob is an economist with more than thirty years experience of economic assessment, policy formulation and analysis, project evaluation and implementation across a wide variety of sectors, institutions, regions and countries. Bob is Managing Director of Zernike UK and has specialised over the last twenty years in the role of technology in development and the drive from new science to improve competitiveness and productivity especially within programmes to stimulate private sector involvement with research and higher education institutions. Bob is a senior research fellow at IC2 a research institute of the University of Texas at Austin and sits on the external review committee for the development of a national network of technology transfer offices in Portugal. Bob has worked with Kate on a range of projects including feasibility work prior to the development of City Labs in Manchester and a series of evaluations of ERDF projects for Medilink East Midlands.


Dr Jane Garnett

Jane focuses on entrepreneurship and the commercialisation of technology working at the interface between academia, business, the NHS and government.  She combines her scientific knowledge and business training with commercial experience to support start-up technology businesses.  For over twenty years Jane has worked with technology transfer offices to mentor and support entrepreneurs with strategy, business planning, intellectual property, market analysis, investor-readiness, economic impact, governance and creating commercial value.  Jane has managed three national programmes aimed at increasing the rate of formation of high quality start-up companies.  She has a PhD, University of Cambridge and an MBA, University of Cape Town.  Jane began working with Kate on the Engineering Young Entrepreneurs Scheme for Loughborough University.


Lynn O’Byrne

lynn-obyrne-xLynn is an administration, communications and event co-ordinator and works regularly with Kate on a contract with Enterprise Educators UK as well as through her own company, PA On Demand. Lynn has over 15 years experience of working within the university sector as well as with a wide range of private sector clients. She works regularly on enterprise education projects and events, including the 250 delegate International Entrepreneurship Educators Conference where she manages registrations and delegate communications. Lynn’s other clients include the Leadership Foundation for Higher Educations and the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Lynn is an extremely experienced, confident and confidential project assistant with excellent communication skills.


Office dog


alfieAlfie, a Patterdale Terrier, joined the team in 2011 as Office Dog. His responsibilities include security and providing advance notification of visitors and deliveries – sometimes a little too enthusiastically!
